1. What are Xeomin® injections?

Xeomin is a non-surgical, anti-aging neuromodulator with similar traits to both Botox®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau®, with a few differences. It's typically used to temporarily smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles around the eyes, brows, mouth, and cheeks.   ​

All neuromodulators help to prevent the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that attaches to muscle cells and causes them to contract. Because they prevent this from happening, the muscles become less stiff and essentially “soften” in the treated area(s). When the pull of the muscle relaxes, the overlying skin generally flattens out – thus reducing wrinkles and/or creases.  Basically, Xeomin® (and the other neuromodulators) temporarily paralyze the muscle that creates the wrinkle, and stops the wrinkle from forming.

2. Is Xeomin® better than Botox® 0r Dysport®?

It’s difficult to say which of anti-aging neuromodulator  is better. But probably the most important difference lies in additives.

Xeomin is also has no additives, just botulinum toxin type A.  This may mean that there is less risk of developing antibodies against Xeomin . As a result, it is often used on patients who have developed an immunity or non-response to Botox® or Dysport®. In theory, antibodies could prevent a neurotoxin from having its desired effects.

Dysport® is also a little thinner than both Xeomin® and Botox®, so it can spread to unwanted areas

3. Are there any side effects of Xeomin® injections?​

Accepted Answer

Some patients have no side effects whatsoever, while others experience some minor bruising, swelling at the injection sites and/or a slight headache.  These side effects usually resolve within a day to a few days.

Patients can return to work and enjoy their normal activities immediately after their Xeomin® appointment.

4. What to expect during treatment?

We use a tiny needle to inject Xeomin® into the skin. While it is not very painful, a topical anesthetic or ice can be applied to decrease discomfort if the patient desires. Like Botox®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau®,  Xeomin® injections last approximately four months. The effects take a few days to become visible.

Some patients find that once wrinkles have been diminished in one area, the wrinkles in other areas of the face may become more bothersome. If you would like to consider treatment in another area, you may contact our office for an appointment to discuss additional treatment options.

6. Will I look frozen?

Accepted Answer

No. You will still have the ability to look naturally surprised, curious, happy, sad, concerned, etc... Many people who seek Botox® do so to actually bring out more of the positive facial expressions, and to diminish or erase the frown and worry lines.

Possibly, but in a good way if injected correctly. You will look rested and younger, but still look like you.
