Sebaceous Hyperplasia

Small bumps which appear on the skin when sebaceous glands become enlarged. Sebaceous glands secrete an oily substance called sebum.  It is a benign skin condition that can occur as people age.

Cherry Angiomas
The collection of small blood vessels inside a cherry angioma give them a reddish appearance. They common skin growths that can develop on most areas of your body.

They’re usually found on people aged 30 and older.

Skin Tags

A skin tag is a small piece of soft, hanging skin that may have a peduncle, or stalk. They can appear anywhere on the body, but especially where skin rubs against other skin or clothing. It is a benign skin condition that can occur as people age.

Hyfrecation

A Hyfrecator is a safe form of electrosurgery in which controlled current is used to heat up and destroy tissue.

It is a low powered device that works very well for destroying skin tags, red skin spots (cherry angiomas), sebaceous hyperplasia, and a medley of other undesirable skin blemishes. The depth of the burn the Hyfrecator creates is very shallow. As a result, a protective crust protects the healthy underlying skin during healing process. This treatment is one of the best (and safest) treatment modalities for superficial lesions like skin tags and red spots!

FAQ

Will it hurt?

The pain is not significant and we offer local anesthesia or topical anaesthetic in the form of cream for each treatment as well as using ice packs and distraction with music to keep the procedure as comfortable as possible. Some patients find that having the local anaesthetic injections are worse than the treatment itself so prefer not to have it but of course you always have the option of having some. The sensation of the treatment is oftentimes described as “hot and pokey,” but the treatment is so quick, that only minimal discomfort is experienced.

How many treatment will I need?

Most patients see complete removal of their skin blemish within one session, although up to 3 sessions may be needed for more persistent milia, or skin tags.

What will happen during the appointment?

Your medical clinician will confirm that it is safe to do the procedure and consent you for the treatment. Confidential medical photos will then be taken.

Will there be a scar?

We take great precautions to minimize the risk of a scar. However each time the skin layers are pierced and broken there is always the risk of a small scar. Most people are happy to accept this risk and very glad to get rid of the lesion in question.  Unlike other methods available, the Hyfrecator typically causes no scarring and incurs minimal downtime after your procedure.
